Kraaijenbrink wint NK Schuurpapier tafeltennisgeplaatst: 9 december 2013

MAGUIRE DELIGHTED TO REACH ALLY PALLY - 13/11/2013
Irish qualifier Gavin Maguire says he couldn’t be happier to have made it to the World Championship of Ping Pong 2014, and beating two Irish greats en route to Alexandra Palace makes it even sweeter.
The 23-year-old from Dublin beat Colm Slevin and Paul McCreery in Irish qualifying for the tournament, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on January 4 and 5, but hopes the duo can still join him via the ‘Last Chance Saloon’ qualifying event in Essex on January 2.
“I couldn't be happier knowing that I am going to Alexandra Palace in January,” said Maguire. “I watched the whole event last year on Sky Sports and loved it.
“To qualify in the way I did makes it even sweeter, beating an Irish great like Colm Slevin, and current Irish great Paul McCreery made the victory all the sweeter. I just hope now they can qualify in the final chance qualifier as they deserve a place in Ally Pally.”
Maguire will find out in December who his first opponent will be in the double-elimination group stage. He joins Welshman Dean Cundy in London, who qualified on the same day as 2009 Irish Champion Maguire.
Reigning champion Maxim Shmyrev was involved in the Russian qualifiers, which took place November 8-10. Shmyrev will return to defend his crown at Alexandra Palace, and will be joined by qualifiers Dmitrij Popov, Ksenija Tulenkova and Vladislav Kuzenko.
Using traditional sandpaper rackets, the World Championship of Ping Pong is a throwback to the early days of table tennis and is catapulting ping pong into the big league and onto the international television stage.
Live on Sky Sports in the UK, 64 of the world's best players will take part in the two-day tournament with a substantial prize fund and tickets are on sale now at SeeTickets.com (search ‘Ping Pong’).
The tournament takes place over four sessions, with a double elimination group stage featuring eight groups played out on eight tables on the Saturday afternoon before the last 32 enter a knockout stage played across two tables in the evening.
On Sunday morning the last 16 will be whittled down to eight quarter-finalists, who will proceed to the evening session to battle it out for the 2014 World Championship of Ping Pong crown.

GERMAN PAIR MAKE IT TO ALLY PALLYDATE POSTED - 05/11/2013
Bernd Ahrens and German champion Alexander Flemming have secured their place in the World Championship of Ping Pong 2014, after reaching the final of the first German ‘Clickball Cup’ in Erfurt on Saturday (October 26).
Flemming was victorious in the final, beating Ahrens 15-15, 15-7. However, both finalists were guaranteed their place at Alexandra Palace.
“After watching highlights of last year, I knew I had to be a part of the Ally Pally Ping Pong spectacle,” said Flemming. “Now I am there and I will try to use the advantage of being an unknown player to provide some entertaining matches and moments for the fantastic crowd in London.”
Bernd Ahrens added: “After the regular season there will be one month for me to be prepared for this big event. I am very happy to be part of it and I think the atmosphere will be great. I want to reach the top 32 and above all have a lot of fun.”

Warm up event 23 november
Hi Guys, as there are no further Ping Pong tournaments scheduled before 2nd Jan 2014, I have decided to put on an additional Ping Pong event at Batts Table Tennis Club as a warm up for the “Last Chance Saloon” qualifier in January.
The date is Saturday 23rd November.
Depending on numbers, it will be either be a Team Event, consisting of 3 or 4 players per team, or one of our regular singles event.
Whatever format we decide on, you all know you will get plenty of matches.
Entry Fee will be £20 (pay on the day)
Could those interested in playing please let me know as soon as possible.
All you have to do is reply to this email and you are in.
For those who have not yet played in a Sandpaper Ping Pong tournament, now is your chance. You never know how good you are until you try !
Finally, for those who have not yet entered the "Last Chance Saloon" qualifier on 2nd Jan, I strongly suggest you do so pretty soon, as we have 56 players already and as this is a World Open event, I am obliged to reserve places for players travelling over from other countries prior to the big event itself at Alexandra Palace.
Thank you.

Following the unqualified success of its 2013 debut, Matchroom Sport are delighted to announce tickets are now on sale for the World Championship of Ping Pong 2014 at Alexandra Palace, London on January 4 & 5.

Qualifiers are being staged for the 2014 World Championship of Ping Pong in 21 countries around the world, with the first names already confirmed for Alexandra Palace.
All eight 2013 quarter-finalists are invited back, and 2013 champion Maxim Shmyrev has confirmed he will defend his title in London. He will be joined by qualifiers including England’s Denis Neale, Dutchman Lars Adema and Lithuanian female star Egle Adomelyte.
Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said: “I am thrilled that once again we are staging the World Championship of Ping Pong in London. We are staging qualifiers all over the world and players are desperate to be a part of this.
“We are taking the sport back to its purest form, back to the old days when it was just a bit of wood and a piece of sandpaper. It’s all about player versus player, not scientist versus scientist, and that is what I love about it.
“This year was great but you’d better get your tickets quickly because next year is going to be even better.”

Seven set for WCPP at Alexandra Palace 4th September 2013
Egle Adomelyte has secured a spot for the second successive year
The race for qualification to the World Championships of Ping Pong at Alexandra Palace (January 4-5, 2013) is starting to take shape with the tickets to a spot in the main event next year already snapped up by seven players following a gruelling qualification process.
In the English men’s standings, top of the list is six-times English National Singles Champion Denis Neale who didn’t appear in the final event as he had already sealed his place in the finals In second place, top 100 ranked English Veteran, Paul Worallo, had to at least reach the final at BATTS last time out, which he did in spectacular fashion. In a tremendous performance under pressure he beat fellow veteran, Joe Kennedy in the final to secure his place in the main event.
The third and final spot was so close it took a count back over the results of all four tournaments to establish who had taken that sought after spot. The winner of the first qualifier, Greenhouse Coach Ashley Stokes, tied with consistent performer and former England international Andrew Rushton after both players had reached 66 points over the series.
The pair could not be separated on matches won or even sets won so the final space came down to a points margin that saw Rushton edge out Stokes. However, he can still fight for the one spot available for winning the WCPP English Closed at Draycott.
In the women’s qualification, star performer Egle Adomelyte comfortably took the first of two available spots with Emma Vickers (picture) securing second place. Both will put up a big fight against the men in London in January and Adomelyte will hope to at least equal her impressive last 16 performance of last year.
Two qualification spaces were also available for the best performing non-English players in the series and this came down to a battle between four players. The popular Dutch star Lars Adema took the top spot with Nigerian Kazeem Adeleke second and both qualify for the second year in succession. The unlucky players who missed out were Jogenes Senorin and Eli Baraty.
The next WCPP event is at the Draycott Table Tennis centre on September 28th where one qualifying spot is available for the winner. If you would like more information please contact:

Dramatic WCPP win for Worallo 3rd September 2013
Staffordshire’s Paul Worallo secured his first win of the World Championships of Ping Pong Qualification Series after a dramatic final against Essex’s Joe Kennedy.
Worallo, who had previously battled to a best of a quarter-final finish in the earlier competitions, was in inspired form at BATTS to take the £150 first prize and earn precious points towards the WCPP Finals at Alexandra Palace in January 2014.
His day started with a tight qualification group finish with three players sharing the lead at the top of Group 5. Worallo, Billy Pegg and Tony West all lost once in their group but, despite his 15-12, 14-16, 15-13 defeat to Pegg, Worallo still emerged in top spot.
Soon after he matched his best result of the WCPP Qualification Series by reaching the last eight after comfortably beating Robin Honey 15-8, 15-5 in the last 32 and then Derek Balding 15-6, 15-9 in the last 16.
He faced two tougher prospects in the quarter and semi-finals against the experienced Graham Sandley and the Dutch player Lars Adema to book his place in the final two. A 15-11, 13-15, 15-12 victory over Sandley was built-upon by a 15-9, 12-15, 17-15 win over Adema to set up a meeting with Kennedy in the final.
Kennedy, at the same stage, had beaten two members of the Walsh family, Jimmy 15-13, 15-9, in the quarters and Luke 13-15, 15-8, 15-8 in the semis to book his place.
There was very little to chose between the pair in the decider, which was reflected in a tense 20-18 opening set for Worallo. Kennedy replied in kind 15-12 to force the final game where Worallo was able to seal a maiden victory with a tight 15-13 end.
The series will now move to the WCPP English Closed at Draycott (September 28, 2013) with opportunities to qualify become more and more important as the number of qualification tournaments heads towards a close.

Stokes victorious in first WCPP Qualifier 9th July 2013
Stokes denies Neale in Qualifier Classic
Barry Hearn’s Matchroom Sports World Championship of Ping Pong Series exploded into action at the first qualifier event and delivered a World class extravaganza of epic Ping Pong play with the Brit, Ashley Stokes, coming out victorious against a strong international field.
Eighty players from seven Countries, including the Nigerian ante-post favourite Kazeem Adeleke and strong Dutch contingent, descended at the BATTS Table Tennis Club in Harlow dreaming of qualifying for the Matchroom Sport WCPP Finals, which are being shown live on Sky Sports over the weekend 4/5th January 2014.
Play commenced with eight groups of 10 competitors, the top four qualifying through to the last 32 knockout phase.
Group 1 saw the favourite Kazeem Adeleke comfortably through alongside the classy Adam Nutland and defender Richard Hutchinson. Keith Baker provided the first seeding upset by defeating Kevin James and Clifford Scott through his classic Chinese penholder style attack.
England’s Chris Doran, last year’s WCPP semi-finalist, comfortably won Group 2. Gabriel Achampong impressed many with his silky attack qualifying fourth behind Israeli, Eli Baraty, and Fred Dove.
Legendary 68-year-old and five-time English National Champion, Denis Neale, won Group 3, but not before being pushed to the limit by youngster and newcomer Omar Khassal. Jimmy Walsh eased through in second but drama ensued as Chris Pickard, Omar Khassal and Wayne Shaw all finished tied on 6 wins and 3 defeats. Khassal unfortunately missed qualification on count back.
Graham Sandley, the ex-England No 1 and top seed in Group 4 was taken down in straight sets by the ever impressive Egle Adomelyte from Lithuania, they were joined in qualification by Dave Tiplady and Derek Balding who beat the top English woman Emma Vickers on count back.
Group 5 proved to be full of quality and surprises with eventual winner Ashley Stokes only managing third spot behind young rising stars Luke Walsh and James Denyer. Vidal Graham, a previous top 30 ranked UK player showed his class by beating the highly entertaining Andy Warner into 4th place.
The strong Dutch contingent was spearheaded by the charismatic Lars Adema and he duly obliged by winning Group 6, however Paul Worrallo, a sandpaper expert, only just managed to qualify in 4thafter losing to Philippines’ JoJo Senorin and club mate Ryan Fellows.
Steffen Greup, another top ranked Dutchman improved as the day progressed to win Group 7.
Joe Kennedy held the challenge of the classy newcomer and experienced English player Michael O’Driscoll to take Group 8.
The last 32 knock out phase started with a huge win for Paul Worrallo after he outplayed No 1 seed Kazeem Adeleke to win in straight sets and blow the tournament wide open. JoJo Senorin also belied his 80/1 odds by winning a tight match against Fred Dove.
Denis Neale had a classic encounter with James Denyer in the last 16. James won the first leg and held two match points in the second, but Neale kept fighting and producing vintage attacking play, which was matched by Denyer, only for Neale to win tight in the third and set up a mouth watering quarter-final clash against his fellow Ex-English No 1 Graham Sandley. Neale again lost the first leg and it looked ominous for the veteran, but using his vast experience he managed to pin down his opponent on the backhand wing, and somehow managed to fight his way into the semi-finals by winning the last two legs.
Ashley Stokes began to come good as he defeated Eli Baraty and powered through against Group 8 winner Joe Kennedy. He faced the buoyant Paul Worrallo in the quarter-finals and just came through in three sets with some incredible attacking from both players.
Another classic international encounter saw Lithuania’s Egle Adomeleyte go the distance with JoJo Senorin. Egle’s sublime backhand attack was neutralised by Senorin’s defensive craft and classic counter-hitting. The match swung both ways, but it was Adomeleyte who marched into the quarter-finals.
It was here that Adomelyte had another duel, this time with young Luke Walsh. This was attack versus attack with winners flying from all angles. Adomeleyte looked beaten as Walsh powered to 13-10 in the final leg, requiring just two points for victory, but somehow she raised her game to squeeze through by the narrowest of margins 16-14.
Chris Doran eased his way to the semi-finals with wins over new boys Vidal Graham and Mike O’Driscoll. In the quarter-finals he demonstrated his world class ability by producing truly amazing defence and counter hitting skills to dispatch the strong attack of Adam Nutland.
The semi-finals saw Stokes stamp his mark on the tournament with a ruthless display of potent attack against Adomeleyte, winning in straight sets.
The second semi-final was a classic; Neale’s relentless attack against Doran’s elegant and assured defence. Doran looked, and played like the favourite, against the tiring Neale. The crowd were in awe as each point produced amazingly long rallies; both players gave everything and sent the match into a deciding leg. Neale found extra reserves of will and determination and took the final leg 15-8. The standard of play from both players in this match was simply incredible.
So it was an all-British final, which saw Stokes start strongly as he went head to head against Neale’s attack. The rallies kept flowing and Stokes took the first game 15-10. It looked all over, but once more Neale fought his way back into the match with some vintage winners taking the second set 15-10. The final leg was absorbing for the crowd with phenomenal shots powering over from both players, but it was Stokes that produced the goods, winning 15-8.
The consolation event, for players who finished outside of the top 4 positions at the group stage, saw Suffolk’s Andy Warner against Staffordshire’s Jason Jones in the final. Jones took the initiative sending attacking shots flying, but Warner matched his opponent with superb defence and counter hitting to take the match close in the third.
The World Championship of Ping Pong series continues on 20th July 2013. See the full results from the first event here.
